Do you believe everything you read? How about the TV news or computer headlines?
The media has been having (creating) a frenzy about the latest job and employment news: dire economic statistics, recessionary activities, staggering unemployment numbers.
And the most interesting part is that the bad news sells!
So the focus is on more and more of it. And the more we listen to, the worse we feel.
Bad news is contagious!
Although the unemployment rate is high (close to 10%), we don't hear much about the 90% of people who are working, or finding and creating new opportunities!
But the GOOD NEWS is that we always have a choice (and you may have heard that before). Every day, our minds have thousands of thoughts - coming as words that march across our brains.
I learned several years ago that it's really up to each person to decide which ones to believe, which to keep, which to question, which to modify, or which to dismiss as untrue and erase. And that changed my life.
I now stop to reflect and ask myself: does this thought help me, or hurt me? Is it taking me closer to my goals, aspirations, objectives? Or is it dropping or pulling me down a huge hole of depression and anxiety? (I have been there, and I didn't like it).
You've probably heard this before too: Change your thoughts, change your life! If you change the stories you are telling yourself, you can change the results you get.
Yes, it can be extremely empowering to rescript your story, change what you tell yourself, which changes how you see yourself, and then how others see you.
It's really about MINDSET. Your mindset creates what happens to you...whether you think you will, or think you won't - you'll be right. If your story makes you frown, it pulls you down.
So the answer is to think more about what you WANT to attract! Spend your time, energy, and focus on it. Most of us spend our time thinking (worrying) about all the things we really don't want, and then wonder why we get them.
Common stories we tell ourselves about why we are having trouble finding work - (excuses is another way to look at it)
- it's my age
- there are gaps in my work history
- it's the economy
- no one is hiring
- I don't have the right skills, or experience, or education
But a change in your MINDSET - or attitude - can be transformational!
Focus on what you ARE doing, creating, building, discovering, having, exploring, living!
You will certainly be much more interesting - delightful even - to talk to.
